My photowork “How to express it?” has been selected as a finalist in the 2025 competition. The Awards Night will take place on October 9 in Brisbane, Australia. The exhibition will run from October 4–10 as part of Queensland Mental Health Week, showcasing powerful stories like mine to the public.
Out from the Mist is a photography and short movie competition. The competition is about mental illness but is also about so much more. Individuals facing challenges to their mental wellbeing are varied in their experiences and their responses. This competition hopes to capture the breadth of that diversity, from the experiences of pain and suffering, caring and empathy for loved ones, through to the elation of conquering obstacles.

This image speaks strongly to the narrative presented, dealing with “inner turmoil and multiple emotional states” … the black and white treatment, the use of movement and multiple exposures has been successful – and I like the solid black background that the three portraits are sitting within.
Well done to the photographer.
This is extremely compelling and haunting almost.
I like your use of high contrast and the composition of three has been put together extremely well.
The image is really effective at conveying the story in the statement. There are smart choices in the way this has been put together – the progression upwards from left to right is fascinating.
The image to the far right is the most individually compelling;
it almost feels like the central portrait is longing to be there.
Well done on something interesting and thought-provoking.
